A great non-fiction book focussed on explaining why we behave the way we behave in Love, Addiction, Power, Creativity, Politics, and Advancement of the species. Everything is controlled by our hormones, especially Dopamin, which is about the future and all others which are about “the now”. True happiness can only be found in harmony between the two – a symbiosis of abstract thinking and the sensual experience of the reality of the moment.
While I knew dopamine to be a potent hormone, I severely underestimated its importance. The book helps to analyze myself: seeing that I am more dopamine-induced action taker, helps me understand myself more. This leads to reflection about how to create more harmony by keeping the meditation practice and remembering to be more mindful in the moment from time to time. Also, the difference between short-term and long-term dopamine systems leads to insights on how to reach long-term goals.
